Case 1. CSVP 2019-3019 (NTU2018-1024, NTU GIMCP, C.S. Hsueh and H.W. Chang)
Canine, Maltese, 11-year-old, male castrated. The patient presented for weight loss for 3 months. Ultrasonography revealed a small intestinal mass
Morphological diagnosis:
1. Subgrossly, completely loss of intestinal architecture and it showed a transmural effacement of the basophilic cellular neoplastic cells. The inner layer is replaced by neoplastic cells, necrotic debris, and hemorrhage and covered by a mat of bacterial colonies and fibrinous materials. The neoplastic cells are arranged in diffuse solid sheet seperated by rare fibrous stroma.
2. They usually enclose small necrotic foci. In higher power field, the neoplastic cells are round, they have little to moderate amount of cytoplasm
3. The nuclei here are quite varied in size and shape, like this neoplasm Teardrop-shaped. The chromatin is clumped or smudged. One or 3 nucleoli,
4. The most exciting features are that intracytoplasmic granules are so easy to be seen. And these granules in these round cells could indicate large granular lymphocyte. The granule are usually near the nucleus, the number varies widely from 3 to 20, and they range from large (3 μm) and obvious to inconspicuous or dust‐like.
IHC:
Enzyme associated with cytotoxic T lymphocytes. This enzymes is stored in the granules of cytotoxic t cell perforin
Intestinal large granular (cytotoxic) T cell Lymphoma enterectomy, jejunum
Etiological Dx.
Canine Intestinal Large Granular T Cell Lymphoma
Case 2. CSVP 2019-3020 (CO19-009, GIVP NCHU, Y.C. Chang, Z.Y. Lin, J.W. Liao, and H.Y. Chiou)
Spiny-tailed iguana (Ctenosaura similis), 1-month-old, was found dead after clinical signs including dehydrated and emaciation were observed. At necropsy, gastric ulceration was considered as the cause of death. Meanwhile, the color of liver parenchyma was found mottle and dark
Morphological diagnosis:
1. Pharyngitis and gastritis, fibrinonecrotic, acute, diffuse, severe, with microthrombi, mucosa to submucosa, pharynx and stomach
2. Melanomacrophage hyperplasia, diffuse, moderate, with intracytoplasmic protozoa, liver, lung and spleen
3. Microsporidiosis, diffuse, severe, jejunum
Laboratory result:
PCR positive for Microspora (86%); Hemococcidia (93%)
Etiological Dx.
Hemococcidiosis and Intestinal Microsporidiosis in Spiny-tailed Iguanas
Case 3. CSVP 2019-3021 (CX18071, ADDC NCYU, N.C. Twu, H.C. Kuo, C.L. Chen, M.H. Chang, and D.Y. Lo)
Broiler, The mortality and cull rates of two-day-old chicks were increased. The flock had daily mortality of 0.07-0.65% with total mortality of 5%(2,585/51,700). At necropsy, enlarged liver with multiple 1-2 mm white spots, heart and lung nodules were observed.
Morphological diagnosis:
1. Hepatitis, heterophilic granuloma, multifocal, subacute to chronic, moderate, liver
2. Myocarditis, lymphocytic, histiocytic granuloma, locally extensive, chronic, severe, heart
3. Interstitial pneumonia, histiocytic granuloma, diffuse, chronic, severe, lungs
4. Encephalomeningitis, severe, histiocytic granuloma, multifocal, chronic, severe, cerebellum
5. Tenosynovitis, fibrinous, heterophilic, lymphocytic, histiocytic granuloma, diffuse, severe
Laboratory result:
Salmonella gallinarum (+), Mycoplasma synoviae (-)
PCR results: Microspora (86%); Hemococcidia (93%)
Etiological Dx.
Fowl Typhoid in Broiler Chicks
Case 4. CSVP 2019-3022 (OT107-176-1, NPTSU, A.N. Lee, X.L. Wu, and Y.C. Li)
Canine, Beagle, 12-year-old, intact male. A 8*4.7*5.4 cm sized testis swelling was noted in left side.
Morphological diagnosis:
1. Solid: large polygonal cells with round to ovoid or atypical nuclei with abundant eosinophilic cytoplasm, anisokaryosis, anisocytosis, inorder arrangement, mitotic figures 2-3/HPF, prominent nucleoli, multiple
2. Classical(cavernous): flat to plump, squamous to spindle cells with or w/o bulging nuclei lining eosinophilic collagenous stroma, spanning clefts/spaces(anastomosing capillary sized or cavernous) containing RBC, desmoplasia
IHC: CD31, Factor VIII, CD34 (+)
Hemangiosarcoma, grade 2, in testis
Etiological Dx.
Canine Testicular Hemangiosarcoma
Case 5. CSVP 2019-3023 (NTU2018-2931, NTU GIMCP, C.H. Shih, F.C. Hsueh, Y.C. Wu, W.H. Huang, and C.H. Liu)
Feline, DSH, 10-year-old, spayed female, had frequent chronic cough for 5 months. CT scan showed extensive lung consolidation. The patient was hospitalized on 2018/10/29 due to severe and persistent labored breathing and hypoxemia. The patient died one week later.
Morphological diagnosis:
1. Pneumonia, granulomatous, locally extensive to diffuse, severe, with intralesional acid-fast bacilli, compatible with atypical mycobacterial infection, lung
