Case 1. CSVP 2018-3001 (CD180SS, ADDC NCYU, L.W. Chang, H.C. Kuo, C.L.
Chen, Y.C. Su, M.H. Chang, D.Y. Lo)
Broiler, 17-days-old, were submitted to ADDC for disease diagnosis. The
broilers have showed clinical signs of depression and sudden death. The
cumulative mortality rate was 5.8% (2,500/43,000).
Morphological diagnosis:
1. Severe acute multifocal necrotizing hepatitis with fatty degeneration and basophilic intranuclear inclusion bodies in hepatocytes
2. Severe acute multifocal necrotizing pancreatitis with basophilic intranuclear inclusion bodies in acinar cells
Etiological Dx.
Inclusion body hepatitis
Case 2. CSVP 2018-3002 (BM18028-3, VBTW, N.K. Yu, W.C. Chang, B.L.
Wang, D.Y~ Lo)
Growing pigs, 10-week-old, showed clinical sign of dark diarrhea. The
morbidity rate was 5% (10/200).
Morphological diagnosis:
1. Cryptic proliferation and hemorrhage, diffuse, severe, chronic, small intestine
2. Sliver stain +; Lawsonia intracellurlaris (210bp): Positive
Etiological Dx.
Porcine proliferative enteropathy
Case 3. CSVP 2018-3003 (1807116, EGAH, Y.C. Chien, K.C. Hu, Y.C. Chiang, C.C. Lin)
Canine, French bulldog, 7-year-old, was presented for CT evaluation of a cranial intra-thoracic mass with a history of coughing and weight loss. There was concurrent right atrial enlargement and pericardial effusion.
Morphological diagnosis:
1. Salt and pepper chromatin & neurosecretory granules
2. Zellballen pattern
3. IHC: Synaptophysin (+);Chromogranin (+);Thyroid transcription factor-1: (-)
Etiological Dx.
A Cranial Intrathoracic Mass: Paragangliomas? Chemodectoma? Ectopic Thyroid Tumors?
Case 4. CSVP 2018-3004 (2014-2297, NTU GIMCP, C.F. Kao, F.I. Wang)
Canine, golden retriever, 9-month-old, intact male. Lt. upper gingival mass was noted for two weeks followed by enlargement of multiple lymph nodes (initially left sided and then right sided) and progressive tetraparalysis.
Morphological diagnosis:
1. The mass is composed poorly differentiated neoplastic cells with varying amounts of clear cytoplasm arranged in sheets, streams, lobules or alveolar pattern separated by intermittent and variably thickened fibrovascular stroma
2. Particularly the myogenic tumor. This slide provide you some gross and microscopic photos of both embryonal and alveolar RMS which have predilection to occur in young age. The descriptive term “embryonal” indicates the tumor may show a range of cellular morphology resembling various development intermediates and often have a “myxomatous stroma” as seen in the developing muscle.
3. Embryonic RMS: Classic embryonic RMS is composed of typical rhabdomyoblasts arranged in sheets and large nests, with infrequent intermixed fusiform cells. No suggestion of an alveolar architectural pattern is present.
4. *Rhabdomyoblast: with moderate to deeply eosinophilic cytoplasm, representing poorly formed myofilaments (hardly identified cross striation)
5. IHC: Vimentin, Desmin (+); SMA +
Etiological Dx.
Juvenile Gingival Rhabdomyosarcoma
Case 5. CSVP 2018-3005 (2017-1582, NTU GIMCP, Y.H. Hsieh, T. Li, H.W.Chang)
Feline, Russian Blue, 2-year-old, castrated male. The patient attended
NTUVH on June 12th 2017 for one week left hindlimb lameness and anorexia. Crepitus and pain was noted when manipulating the left hip joint.
Morphological diagnosis:
1. Osteonecrosis, with disorganized clusters of chondrocytes, granulation tissue and new bone formation, Lt. femoral neck and head
2. Airsacculitis, lymphocytic, multifocal, chronic, moderate, with endothelial activation, air sac
Etiological Dx.
Feline Physeal Dysplasia with Slipped Capital Femoral Epiphysis (SCFE)
Case 6. CSVP 2018-3006(C018-439, GIVP, NCHU, Y.X. Lin, Y.H. Su, J.P Kao,
H.Y. Chiou, J.W. Liao)
Rabbit, 9-year-old, intact male. A 6× 5×5 cm subcutaneous mass at left chest was observed and surgical excision was performed. In addition, an 8 mm in diameter wart-like lesion at forehead was noticed for six months and it was also removed.
Morphological diagnosis:
1. Chest: Neoplastic tissue was composed of interwoven fascicles of malignant ovoid to spindle-shaped cells. Multinucleated cells with large, bizarre nuclei.
2. Skin: histological resemblance to the germinative epithelial cells of the hair follicle during hair follicle morphogenesis
Etiological Dx.
Fibrosarcoma, subcutaneous, chest
