Canine, English bulldog, 10-year- old, showed acute onset of neck pain which deteriorated rapidly to non-ambulatory forelimbs paresis. The patient's neurologic function deteriorated rapidly and lost spontaneous breathing. Euthanization was performed because of poor prognosis.

Morphological diagnosis:

1.         Malacia, multifocal to coalescing, severe, with subarachnoid hemorrhage, mild astrogliosis and focal laceration, cerebrum, cerebellum and brainstem

2.         Hydrocephaly and cerebral edema, cerebrum

3.         Myelomalacia and hemorrhage, with intradural and subarachnoid hemorrhage, spheroids and mineralization of axons within dorsal roots, spinal cord

4.         Meningomyelitis, suppurative, locally extensive, subacute, severe, with fibrinoid necrosis of blood vessels, spinal cord

Etiological Dx.

Acute Brain and Spinal Cord Injuries

Case 2. CSVP 2018-2972 (CO16-478B, NCHU GIVP, F.H. Hou, Y.H. Lee, T.C. Liu, M.Y. Chia, W.C. Lee.)

Pig, 11-week- old, showed clinical signs of dyspnea, anorexia and reluctant to move. The morbidity was 80% and the mortality was approximately 10% in nursery pigs..

Morphological diagnosis:

1.         Pneumonia, interstitial, with necrotic clump accumulated in alveolar space, diffuse, subacute to chronic, moderate to severe, lung

2.         Bronchopneumonia, suppurative, locally extensive, acute, moderate, lung

Case 3. CSVP 2018-2973 (CD18011, ADDC NCYU, Y.W. Liao, H.C. Kuo, C.L. Chen, Y.C. Su, M.H. Chang, D.Y. Lo)

Native chicken, 20-week- old, showed clinical signs of depression, dyspnea and sudden death. The total number of chickens in the farm is 11,000 and about 4 chickens died per day

Morphological diagnosis:

1.     Liver, lung, trachea: erythromyeloblast cells, focal to diffuse, severe, chronic

2.     PCR: Marek’s disease (-); Reticuloendotheliosis disease (-); Avian leukosis virus (+)

Etiological Dx.

Avian leukosis virus subgroup J infection in native chicken breeders

Case 4. CSVP 2018-2974 (D106-649- 1, ADDC-NPUST, Y.H. Chen, M.T. Chiou, C.N. Lin, Y.C. Li)

Pig, 2-week- old, from a farrow-to- finish farm, showed clinical signs of abdominal breathing, abnormal gait and ataxia. The morbidity was 40% and the fatality was 40%

Morphological diagnosis:

1.     Polyserositis, fibrinous, locally extensive, chronic active, severe, with numerous cellular debris infiltration and angiogenesis, cerebrum, cerebellum, heart, lung and liver

2.     Polyserositis ( caused by Escherichia coli )

Etiological Dx.

Case 5. CSVP 2018-2975 (NTU2017-1407, NTU, C.H. Chen, C.H. Liu)

Meerkat (Suricata suricatta), 11-month- old, female, was pregnant and had a history of hypercholesterolemia with its littermates showed weakness and died within two days. Mild to moderate hemorrhage at external genital tract was noted when the patient was found dead

Morphological diagnosis:

1.   Atherosclerosis and stenosis of ascending aorta

2.   Myocardial fibrosis and mineralization

3.   Disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC)

Etiological Dx.

Atherosclerosis and Stenosis of Ascending Aorta with Myocardial Fibrosis and Left Ventricular Dilatation in a Young Meerkat

Native chicken, 29-day- old, were submitted to ADDC for disease diagnosis. They show clinical signs of cough, loss of appetite and depression. The total number of breeding is about 14,000. The incidence rate is about 80% (11,200/14,000). The accumulating mortality rate is about 0.4 % (57/14,000)

Morphological diagnosis:

1.         Laryngotracheitis, lymphohistocytic, catarrhal, multifocal, chronic, sever
