Nursery pig, from a farrow-to-finish farm, showed clinical sign of severe diarrhea after weaning for 1 week. A high morbidity (500/600) but low mortality (50/600) situation was observed in this case.
Morphological diagnosis:
1. Pleuritis, diffuse, acute, severe, with fibrin accumulation and neutrophils infiltration on pleura, lung.
2. Bronchopneumonia, necrotizing, purulent, locally extensive, acute to subacute, severe, with necrotic bronchial epithelial cell debris, neutrophilic infiltration in bronchioles and with neutrophils accumulation in alveolus, with edema fluid accumulation in alveolus and interlobular septa, lung
3. Hepatitis, multifocal, subacute, moderate to severe, with neutrophils and macrophage infiltration in parenchymal cells, liver
4. Ulceration, multifocal, subacute, moderate, gall bladder
Etiological Dx.

Morphological diagnosis:
1. Diffuse pulmonary lymphangiomatosis, lung
2. Glomerular amyloidosis and interstitial fibrosis and degeneration, kidney
3. Follicular degeneration, thyroid gland
4. Abscess formation, nodule beside the submandibular bone
5. Adrenal adenoma, adrenal gland

White Roman goose, 3-month-old, showed clinical signs of anorexia, depression and neurological signs. Cyanosis of the leg shanks and hemorrhage of conjunctiva and eyelid were noted. High cumulative morbidity and mortality rates (~100%) were observed. At necropsy, white stripes on the myocardium, white and/or red spots on the pancreas, and white or pale grey foci of various sizes in the liver and spleen were observed. Enlargement of liver and spleen was also noted.
Morphological diagnosis:
1. Brain: Lymphocytic cuffing.
2. Necrotic lesions and viral antigen staining were observed in multiple visceral organs, suggesting that the novel H5N8, H5N2, and N5N3 virus cause a systemic infection.
Etiological Dx.
Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza Virus H5 infection in geese
Case 5. CSVP 2016-2909(CO16-232, GIVP-NCHU, J.Y. Wu, H.K. Chang, C.L.Ho, C. C. Lin)
Canine, mongrel, 15-year-old, intact female, showed weakness, lethargy and once unable to stand one month ago. The patient showed seizures on 4/15 for one time and 4/16 for three times. The blood slide showed lots of microfilariae and ultrasonography showed a mass at mitral valve. The patient was euthanized on 4/17 because labored breathing and low BP&BT were noticed.
Morphological diagnosis:
1. Brain: Hemorrhage and thrombus, necrosis, DIC with microfilaria
2. Heart: Endocarditis, vegetative, severe, chronic active, focal
Etiological Dx.
Hemorrhagic stroke with dirofilariasis
